Mobile Phone & Camera Policy
Caterpillars Pre-school views the safety of the children in our care as paramount.  The pre-school does not allow the use of: mobile phones, any image recording device, or personal technical equipment such as lap tops, I pads etc to be used in pre-school without prior permission of the Manager. Our aim is to have a clear policy on the acceptable use of mobile phone and cameras that is understood and adhered to by all parties concerned without exception. Parents/Visitors All parents and visitors will be advised of this policy as they enter the pre-school. Parents and visitors will be asked to ensure their phones are kept in their bags for the duration of their visit. To ensure the safety and welfare of children in our care we operate a mobile phone policy which stipulates that mobile phone cannot be used when in the presence of children and on our premises, unless prior consent is sought from the Manager. If parents or visitors need to use their mobile phone they will be asked to leave the premises in order to do so. Staff Use Caterpillars Pre-school allow staff to bring in their mobile telephones and devices for their own use. All staff bring their phones in at their own risk, and Caterpillars cannot be held responsible for any theft or damage that may occur. Staff mobile phones are only to be used in the staff room, and not in the main teaching area of the pre-school or in the presence of children. The Manager has permission to keep her mobile phone with her at all times, due to any emergencies which may occur.  See our Evacuation Policy. If staff have a personal emergency they are authorised to use the main phone situated in the Supervisor’s office. If any member of staff has a family emergency and is required to keep their mobile phone to hand, prior permission must be sought from the Manager or Supervisor. It is the responsibility of all staff members to be vigilant and report any concerns to the Manager. Concerns will be taken seriously, logged and investigated appropriately. The Manager, or Supervisor in her absence reserves the right to check the image library of a member of staff’s  mobile phone should there be any cause for concern over the appropriate use of it. Should inappropriate material be found then our local authority designated officer will be contacted immediately on: Professionals Helpline 01329 225 379 Photographs taken for the purpose of recording a child or group of children participating in activities or celebrating their achievements is an effective form of recording their progression in the EYFS.  However, it is essential that photographs are taken and stored appropriately to safeguard the children in our care: Only the designated pre-school camera/tablets are to be used to take photographs in our setting.
